FotoScrap Album 1.9v015

Improvements and Bug fixes …

The major new improvement allows for pictures to be automatically converted to PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format before launching an external photo editor program.  This makes it easy use the transparency layer of PNG files to create non-square images.  A highly requested feature.

Other improvements relate to the handling of missing pictures, moving pictures from one folder to another, keeping track of more “recently opened” Album files.

Serious bug fixes improve the handling of WMV movie files, Exporting a page image to JPG file when there are complicated manipulations of PNG files on the page, fixes to Save As and Publish, and the handling of pictures stored in the same folder as (or a sub-folder of) the Album file itself.

The details are all in the ReadMe file.  And, as always, this is the download link – FotoScrap Album 1.9v015

I hope you enjoy this newest version.  We’ll be heading south again to Lanikai, so there won’t be any new changes for a while.

FotoScrap Album 1.9v

Well, the two Beta Tests were successful (Thank You to all who provided feedback!) and I’ve added some new goodies and fixed a few important bugs since then as well.

The two biggest additions are …

  • The Font selection control for all text boxes now displays the various available font names using the individual fonts themselves.
  • Added ‘Embellishments’ as an alternative type of image insertion.  Embellishments (Ribbons, Fibers, Graphics, Stickers, whatever) are treated almost exactly like Pictures, the main difference being that Embellishments are Added with an explicit zero-width border.

The details are all in the ReadMe file.  And, as always, this is the download link – FotoScrap Album 1.9v

I hope you enjoy this newest version.  We’ll be underway again on Lanikai, so there won’t be any new changes for a while.

FotoScrap Album 1.9u104 – the Beta Test continues

I’ve had reports back that the Beta Test from last week (1.9u98) runs successfully both on Windows XP and on the AMD processor chips.  This is great news.

I’m continuing the Beta Test for another week – just to let more reports trickle in.  There are a couple of important bug fixes in today’s release (neither related to the speedup code that is the basis of the Beta Test).  Perhaps most importantly, I have (after lots of encouragement!) changed the visual presentation of the Borders and Colors dialog; the ‘cascading’ values now cascade downward, which is the intuitive way it should have been laid out originally.  No functional change, just visual.

If you have any problems you can always fall back to the earlier version 1.9u88.

This new version is 1.9u104 and is available for download here.

FotoScrap Album 1.9u98 – big speedups – a Beta test

I’ve put quite a number of important performance improvements in FotoScrap Album.  Notably the loading of JPG files is now over twice as fast – I’ve added some new code that takes advantage of special hardware instructions (which have been available in Intel and AMD processor chips for almost a decade now, so even older Windows XP machines should notice improvements).

This speedup up should be most noticeable for Album pages that have more than a single picture on them.  There is also some significant speedup when “Exporting pages as JPG” files and when Printing.

But the introduction of the special hardware instructions is a pretty big change and so I’ve chosen to call this a Beta Test.  Doreen and I have tested it pretty well and I would really like to hear back from you if you have either success or problems.  If you have any problems you can always fall back to the earlier version 1.9u88.

This new version is 1.9u98 and is available for download here.

FotoScrap Album 1.9u88 – should actually install !!

This is embarrassing …

The previous two versions of FotoScrap Album (1.9u79 and 1.9u86) would not actually install on PCs where the program had never been installed before.  How useless!!  This is now fixed.

There are no other changes in this version (1.9u88)  from the 1.9u86 version of a few days ago.

The download page is here.

Thanks to Sylvie on s/v Puddytat for pointing this out to me.

Please enjoy…
