Dry Rot !!

We thought we had a small problem with one corner of the propane locker (a plywood box holding the propane tanks).  Yup!! Doreen started tearing into it and discovered a lot of dry rot.  I opened it up some more and we find that the whole box is dry-rotted plywood beneath the fiberglass shell.

The repair plan is to remove the inner fiberglass layer, remove and then replace the rotten wood with solid fiberglass.  We’ll have to do this slowly, in stages, so that we continue to have a box to work with !!

Stay tuned !!

Tillamook School of Computer Repair

We had an old desktop to get rid of.  Nicolas helped!  The disk drive and motherboard will never be the same again!   Lets hope that he understands that laptops don’t really need this level of help!

A Royal tour of the Caribbean

Doreen and I are going to pamper ourselves with a Royal Caribbean cruise from Colón, Panamá, for 7 nights and then back to Colón. Here is a small map of the trip…

and here is a small picture of the ship Enchantment of the Seas

I’ll be posting something to the blog daily (I hope) with little pins in our Travel Map to show our progress.  There will be lots of pictures (Doreen is anticipating lots and lots and lots).  But they will get posted after we return.

Two weeks of intense programming

Its been a long 2++ weeks!

On 12 June, Yahoo! Small Business removed one programming function from the PHP programming language that they provide – the WordPress software powering this blog is written in PHP. Alas: this one function provided the necessary support for reading new blog postings from the eMail, the scheme we use heavily for posting on this blog. True, Yahoo’s documentation has always said that the function (the fsockopen() function, should you care about the details) was not supported, so I guess I’ve been skating on thin ice for a few years now. The new mechanism (much more difficult to implement, but much more efficient and powerful) is using all fully supported functions.

Well, with this totally different scheme now implemented, we’re on the air again. So expect more posts !! Doreen’s picture post Panama City Activities (below) is the first example.
