Underway Again

We exited Golfito Monday late morning so that we could leave with the outgoing tides.

We passed the old banana pier which is now not used much.  It was built when bananas were ‘king’ here for the shipment of bananas to the world.

We left with cloudy skies and had a nice motor boat ride in flat seas until early afternoon when the wind piped up from the south, right on our nose.  We the pulled up sails and tacked our way out of the Golfo Dulce hoping for a nice reach when we turned the corner to head off to Bahia Drake.  Well that was not to be – when we reached the point the winds lessened and moved more westerly, still on our nose.  Overnight the clouds coalesced into thunder storms that plagued us all night with shifty winds, sometimes strong, interspersed with periods of very light winds.  Of course lumpy seas accompanied the squalls.  In the morning when all had calmed down we still  had the lumpy seas until we turned the corner into Bahia Drake where it was quite calm and sunny.
