Bahia Drake

We dropped the anchor in Bahia Drake early this morning after a 17-hour trip from the head of Golfo Dulce.

Gia Reef

We finally got out of Golfito this, Thursday, morning and are anchored off the head of Golfo Dulce with fairly clear water. Looks good for snorkeling.

Golfito, Costa Rica

We arrived in Golfito, Costa Rica, yesterday morning (Jan.3) and after getting Lanikai settled at Land Sea Yacht Club (ie Tim and Katie’s place), we spent the rest of the day running around to various offices getting our paperwork done to get us legally checked into Costa Rica. The passage from Isla Gamez was an uneventful motor sail with the usual head winds. The first half of the trip was slower than expected with contrary currents but after we rounded Punta Burica into Costa Rica we picked up speed and arrived at Golfito in the early morning as planned.

We spent New Year’s Eve partying on Soul Surfing, a catamaran with a nice large deck, with the folks from the six other boats anchored off Isla Gamez, Panama. We shared a wonderful potluck supper and then the musicians in the group pulled out their guitars and we enjoyed music until the year changed at midnight. January 1 was a day of rest for all of us and Bill and I spent some time getting Lanikai ready for our overnight passage to Golfito.

Punta Burica

We had a rough passage to Punta Burica (the dividing line between Panama and Costa Rica) with winds on the bow, and against the current, making short steep waves. But after we rounded the point the passage to Golfito became real pleasant.
