Today Doug, Nicolas, and I drove to Salem to meet up with the Phan’s. Austin had made it to state in his bible memory program. It was pretty incredible and Austin was very brave! I was impressed. He clicked that button like a champ and talked into the microphone like a professional news man. It was awesome. And the best part…. He won!!!! Out of 20 kids…. HE WON!!!

Tomorrow is Heather’s birthday but tonight we had a party for her. Doug barbecued steak and fresh fish, and baked potatoes with all the fixins!!! YUM! Heather isn’t much of a cake person so Ginger helped me to make her a beautiful fruit cake! It was so pretty…. and very yummy.
Kids really enjoyed it!

This morning we woke up to a few inches of snow on the ground. It was of course expected and well anticipated! Kids even got a snow day from school! I bet that doesn’t happen very often when you live on the Coast!
Luckily Joey has a heat lamp on!

A friend’s sow had 13 piglets on Monday. She actually had 15 but two didn’t make it. We got to go over to her house after school today and see them. They are so little!!!
This is Clayton. The momma was his prize pig at fair last year. His mom helped breed her and he’s going to get another prize this year! He answered all the kids questions the entire time we were there! It was pretty cool. He is one proud kid of those piglets!
We are hoping in a few weeks to be able to buy a couple of them. I told Tanya to sell them to 4H kids first. We would take the left overs since we are raising ours for meat only. Not trying to win a big prize!

Today while Lexi was at dance Emily got a haircut. Her poor hair was pretty fried since the perm. And the perm didn’t even take! Turned out cute though, real cute. In her boyfriends words, “amazing”.

Doug has spent the last little bit working on a “pig pen” that we are now calling the “steer pen”. A week or so ago Alexa and him dug and concreted in the posts. The plan was to fence in a gated area around the stable that was built last year for the steer. Then Doug and I spent two mornings hauling gravel and fencing with hog wire. Yesterday the neighbor let Doug know there was a bull born, 30 bucks and he was ours! So this afternoon we picked up Joey (short for Sloppy Joe). He is so cute! This time around were thinking of trying just one. Were hoping to get pigs in the next month or so…. looks like were going to have to build a new pig pen! And when I say we, I’m really saying Doug.
He rode home in the back seat of the pickup. Emily had to sit in back with him to keep him still.

Isn’t he cute??? He is so tiny compared to the two big boys that left here last fall.
