It was a busy weekend.  Jacob had a sleepover with his friends, Emily had a dance, Alexa went to her mom’s, and Nicolas spent the weekend grounded to his bed.  But it was a good weekend.

It’s bitter sweet, my kids are growing up.   Jacob would rather be with friends then his parents.  He looks forward to the evenings we take him to the pool so he can see his friends.  Or his weekends when he can get together with them.  He seems to count the days till Friday arrives again so he can have sleepovers and friend time.

Emily loves school, and loves being with her friends.  School is now her social time.  She seems to continue having good study habits and will probably do very well this year again.  She loves to go to school so she can see her friends.  She doesn’t see her friends on the weekends as much so she looks forward to Mondays.

 Alexa loves school this year!  She always comes home bubbly about her day.  She loves her teacher!  She even rides the school bus too and from school happily.  She is in dance this year and has no problem getting dropped off to skip inside alone.

Nicolas has gone an entire week reading, and doing homework without the drama!  He spent the entire weekend on his bed (except when he was helping with chores or practicing writing).  He even composed an entire letter to his teacher.  5 sentences!   He still has some things to work on in school but I think he’s figuring it out.

All the kids are gone all day.  They all load on the bus early in the morning and they don’t come home until afternoon.  WOW!  Where does the time go!

A fun evening

Our friends came over to enjoy the first burgers from our cows.  While they were here Jeffrey helped to get the tether ball pole out!  YEA!!!  It’s gone!

Nicolas

Nic’s been having a rough time adjusting to school.  Its unclear if it’s been difficult for him to adjust to staying on task.  Or if it’s been hard for him to keep his body parts to himself.  Or if maybe it’s just been hard for him to follow rules all day.  Either way, he’s been having a rough time.  He has a wonderful teacher that has been working with us to encourage good behaviors out of him.  In the begining he seemed to have a rough time in all areas.  Grandpa has shown up in his class twice now to watch and see how he was.  Grandpa noticed improvements from the first week to the second week.  The last few days he seems to have trouble in only one area, but a different area each day.  Every afternoon he has been removed from the family fun to finish school work.  He has had to spend time on his bed for not keeping his hands to himself or following rules at school and on the bus.  Every night he is put to bed earlier then the rest of the gang.  The good news is we have been seeing improvements at home.  He completes his work now without his drama scene.  But it is work that he should be completing at school.  He reads to us very nicely when asked.  I’m hoping with some consistency he will start to realize that it would really be much more fun if he would just complete things at school and keep his hands to himself.  Pig noises in the classroom is just not okay!  We love him though and believe in him.  He has great potential to being a really good student.  He just needs to realize that himself.  In the meantime, he is getting to know his bed pretty good!

Alexa begged grandma for days to help her bake a pie with the blackberries that grow by our house.  Grandma finally found some time when Lexi was available!

Swing Set comes down

Today we took down the swing set.  It started as a small project of just getting a few boards off.  Next thing we knew the whole thing was coming down.  All kids, except Nicolas, helped us out.  Soon we even got grandpa out helping us get the hard screws out.  Doug was at work so he was relieved from the dutys.  Now we need to fill in the area with dirt and grow some grass!  More room in the back yard for kids with their balls!

Boat Grandma and Grandpa Visit

Last night Emily and I drove into Portland to pick up the boat grandparents.  Their plane arrived at 11pm.  We then went out to a quick (not really so quick) snack and drove home.  We were all home in bed by 2:30am.  Then back up at 6am to get kids off to school.  Yep Emmers too.  That was the deal, she could come but she had to make it to school without complaining.  She did! 

Jacob and Nicolas were up early and snuck out to the cabin to wake up grandma and grandpa.  So, even grandma and grandpa didn’t get to sleep in!

A weeks review

We had a great week in the Brill family and a very fun weekend.  The kids are adjusting really nice to school.  Well that is, all kids except for Nicolas.  He’s another story.  Even Alexa loves school this year!

Friday night Alexa’s mom picked her up to camp at Netarts bay.  The rest of us  got together with some friends and enjoyed pizza and drinks.  The kids all had a really good time running around with flashlights once it was dark.  Then we dropped off Jacob to his mom to camp for the remainder of the weekend.

Saturday evening we all met up on the beach for a bonfire.  Mindy, John, Alexa, and Jacob met up with us.  The kids enjoyed running around on the beach.  The adults enjoyed sitting around a warm campfire. 

Today is a day of rest and relaxation.  Tomorrow everyone is back off to school and another week will start!

Jacob is officially in band

Jacob and I went to a band meeting tonight at 7pm.  He is officially in band.  He is so excited!!!  Talk about proud!

Super!! I started playing the clarinet in the 4th grade (or maybe it was the 5th grade) and played in the Junior High Band. I was ok-good, but nothing spectacular. But I had a really good time – especially in the parades!!
