Cows

I’m at work today and get a text from Doug that the cows are out again!  Are you kidding me!!!  This time it’s just Taco Time.  Of course Emily and Lexi weren’t around to help.  I had dropped them off at Aunt Gingers to babysit.  Jacob and Nicolas were both still sound asleep.  So poor Doug all by himself spent the next 30 minutes or so fighting with one stubborn steer.  That was enough for Doug.  He had plans for working on the cabin floor but ended up spending most of the day digging new posts and concreting them in so that we can run new fencing right.  Not at all in his plan.  He did work on the framing of the cabin for a few hours but didn’t accomplish what he had hoped.  Life Happens!

Doug worked on the cabin some more today.  He screwed the base framing onto the concrete pads.  I think it took him and several kids to hold it all level until it was screwed into place.

Cows

Just heading off to bed.  I decided to let the dogs outside one more time.  Doug was already in bed. Wait a minute.  Our cows are in the field beside the chicken coop.  Oh, dang.  “DOUG!!!” 

So we all head down to the chicken coop and spend the next 15 minutes rounding them up and into the chicken coop.  We’ve done this once before and thought we had fixed the problem with new fencing…. Nope.  They just pushed the new fencing down too.  Okay time for some boards along the top.  45 minutes later we are finally heading into bed.  Stupid Cows!  Better be some good eaten!

A long week

It has been a really long week.  Doug and I both worked extra shifts juggling Emily around to babysit either Nicolas or Rici or both.  It was a long week for her too.  She made some good money but told me that babysitting was exhausting.  She said “now I know why you are always so tired at night.”  She enjoys it and the money and wants to continue babysitting Rici on Tuesdays though. 

Today after church I drove the truck into Portland to pick up Lexi and Jacob!  They have been gone for two weeks!!!  We miss them!  Once we had them all loaded we headed on to Milwaukie to pick up a futon from a really nice couple.  It was such a score!  I found it on Craigs List.  I was so excited to finally have a couch in the back room.  The kids have been using camping cushions.  It is perfect.  Soon I will stain it to match the rest of the wood work in the room.

Beach

Today I decided it would be fun to take the kids to the beach.  It was incredibly windy here at home so I figured it would be a short trip.  It ended up being beautiful with no wind at all.  Emily and Nic were pumped…. Rici was….. FREAKED OUT!

He was not impressed at all.  He squirmed like mad to get out of cousin Emily’s arms so he could run back to the car.  We got him to the sand and Emily was trying to get him to touch it.  He finally reached down and then as soon as he felt it…. stood up…. more screams.

We found some walked for a while, found some rocks, and a really cool stream flowing under the rocks.  Rici didn’t like that either.  I’m pretty sure Nic figured out how to get soaked.  Then Emily and Nic found some big rocks to climb on.  They had a blast.

Rici finally decided he might as well try and have fun.  He started climbing the smaller of the rocks and jumping all around.  Finding little rocks and throwing them onto the sand.

Then it happened….

Rici was carrying a big rock (boulder for him) struggling with this rock getting closer and closer to the water.  I think he was going to throw it in the water.  I was sitting on some rocks watching him play.  Emily and Nicolas were behind me playing on the tall rocks.  Emily screamed “watch out” I looked up and here it came, a good sized wave.  I ran for Rici, he looked right at me and tried to throw the boulder on me, I was trying to pick him up.  Poor kid was panicked.  In the chaos of picking him up from the water and dumping the dang boulder and me running….. plop. My keys and camera fell out of my pocket into the surf.  Not much I could do but keep running Rici to dry land.  Once he was safe and the surf went out I started looking.  Finally found the keys buried but sticking out a tiny bit.  Beside it I saw a black string… it was the camera.

So the good news is, we didn’t have to walk home.  The bad news is Rici is freaked out with the beach again.  Oh ya, and my camera is toast once again.

Go for the water-proof Olympus “sport” camera. Mine is the 770, but the newer ones have a different number. Good to 30 feet deep and a drop to concrete of 5 feet. Effectively indestructible (unless you are *trying* to kill it!). I’ve had mine snorkeling to 15 feet and in the water for over an hour – no problem. Mom has banged it into stuff – again: no problem! Friends have the newer model and it is a wee bit better. Check it out!!

A Kick Butt Day

Today was a very busy day.  Doug started the day early by getting a load of rock.  Emily and I started emptying the rock while Nicolas and Doug filled the huge holes for the cabin with concrete.  Once the concrete was finished Doug came over and helped us haul the rest of the rock.  I cleaned up around the yard burning brush, old wood, a pile of bark, and some garbage.  We then decided to go for a run.  Once we got back it was finally warm enough to dry the grass.  Time to mow the grass!  Aunt Ginger showed up to pick up Rici just as we were finishing.  After showers we are pooped and ready for bed!  Early night.

Cabin

Doug and his dad spent the last two days fishing.  His mom, Emily, and I did some shopping!  Even found a good yard sale.  Grandma made a good score on some overalls for Emily and a bunch of good reading books.

Today we broke ground on the cabin.  No pictures though, sorry.  We figured out the location and Doug Dug ten holes to fill with cement.  They also dug up around the septic tank to figure out how to tap into it appropriately.

Ginger Arrives!

My sister arrived today with her Uhaul full of stuff.  Sad news it’s only the first Uhaul.  She arrived about 615 am, ate some food, and fell asleep.  By 9am we were heading out to her new place to unload.  It was a long exhausting day but we managed to empty the entire uhaul and return it to the company before 5pm.  I was exhausted with a full nights sleep.  I have no idea how she was managing!

When I got home there was a message on my phone that the Mountain House Grandparent’s were on their way and only an hour away!  Yikes, gotta get some bedding ready!!!  It all worked out and by the time they arrived Doug was home and we were all showered and relaxing.  What a pleasant surprise.

Tired Boys

At the end of a long play day the boys are wiped!!!  Rici crashed on Emily’s lap.   Not long after Nicolas crashed.  Emily is having a friend over.  Now that the boys are out I think they have big plans for a night of TV!!!
